BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Head Coach Sam Carrodo and his Spartans have earned the #3 seed for the 2010 Region XIX Tournament and will host 6th seeded Sussex County Community College in a best of three series starting on Saturday.
The Spartans, 25-7 overall, finished the regular season with a 17-3 conference record, which put them in a tie with Brookdale for second place (Gloucester earned 1st place with an 18-2 mark). After utilizing the Region tie-breaking procedures, a coin flip was used to determine the #2 and #3 seeds, which Brookdale won, thus earning the #2 seed and the bye to the Regional Final Four in Toms River, NJ next weekend.
"Obviously we would have loved to get the bye," stated Carrodo, "but it has been awhile since we played so I really think it will do us good to get out on the field this weekend and compete. That being said, Sussex is going to be a very difficult opponent for us."
The Spartans own a 2-1 record over the Skylanders this season, with Sussex winning 6-5 on March 17th in Myrtle Beach, and NCC sweeping the regional doubleheader on April 1st, 2-1, 5-1.
Game one on Saturday will start at 12:00pm, followed by game two, 20 minutes after the completion of game one. If the teams split on Saturday, they will meet again on Sunday at 12:00pm at NCC.
