Spartans and Jersey Blues Split Top Ten Showdown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The matchup of NJCAA top ten programs lived up to the pregame hype, as #2 Brookdale Community College and #9 Northampton split a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

In game one Northampton took a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning, only to see Brookdale rally for three runs in the top of the seventh to escape with a 3-2 victory.

Krysten Rockovits (5-1), who threw a complete game three-hitter, striking out five and walking none, suffered the loss for NCC.

Gina Falco was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI, while Casey Ord recorded four stolen bases to lead the NCC offense.

In game two, the Jersey Blues jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but NCC responded with two runs of their of own in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 2-2.  

The Spartans took a 4-2 lead after plating two runs in the bottom of the fourth and Brookdale responded with a run of its own in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 4-3.

Erin LaBar came on in relief of Lindsay Frontino and held Brookdale to one hit and no runs to secure the 4-3 victory for NCC.

Frontino earned her third win of the season, while Ord finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

The 9th ranked Spartans, who improve to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in Region XIX, travel to Blue Bell, PA on April 6th to face Montgomery County Community College at 3:30pm.
