Compton Propels Softball into Final Four

Winning pitcher Heather Compton
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC Softball team defeated Sussex County Community College, 5-0, on Sunday in the deciding third game of their playoff series to advance to the Region Final Four for the second consecutive season.

Head Coach Sam Carrodo went to sophomore Heather Compton on the mound, who delivered, throwing a three-hitter with five strikeouts to earn the victory.

"Heather pitched a terrific game," stated Carrodo, "she really came up big for us, she had success against Sussex in the past, so our staff felt pretty confident going in that she could get the job done."

NCC got on the board in the 2nd inning as Tiffany Kobordo bunted and reached third base on an overthrow and then stole home on an overthrow to second base when Jen Denaro stole second.\

The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the 3rd inning when Casey Ord reached base on an infield single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.  Gina Falco, who reached on an error, also scored later in the inning on a wild pitch, giving NCC a 3-0 lead.

NCC slammed the door in the 5th inning when Kate Check doubled to deep left and then scored on a double from Kobordo.  Kobordo (2 for 3) later scored on an overthrow to give her team a 5-0 lead.

Compton finished the Skylanders off in the top of the 7th to send NCC to its second consecutive Region XIX final four.

Northampton, now 27-8, will faced 2nd seeded Brookdale Community College in the Regional Tournament at Ocean County College on Saturday May 8th at 10am.
