NEWTON, NJ - The NCC Softball split a Region XIX doubleheader at Sussex County Community College on Wednesday afternoon, taking game one 3-2 and falling 10-5 in the nightcap.
The Spartans, who are fighting for playoff position, rode the arm of
Emily Perruso in game one, as the righthander limited Sussex to 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1 to earn her 11th win of the season.
Morgan Neel was 2 for 3 with a double to lead NCC at the plate.
In game two, NCC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but the Skylanders responded with 6 quick runs en route to the 10-5 victory.
Ashley Venturino and
Morgan Neel were each 2 for 4 with an RBI and Jen Denaro was 3 for 4 to lead the Spartan offense.
Jessica Kline (0-1) took the loss on the mound for NCC.
The Spartans, now 13-7 overall and 11-7 in Region XIX, host Bergen County College on Thursday in a crucial Region XIX doubleheader.
Sussex is now 22-11 overall and 12-6 in Region XIX.
