BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Passaic County Community College on Tuesday night.
Passaic took game one 25-22, before NCC responded in game two (25-17) and three (25-23) before falling 25-23 in game four, setting up a climatic game five.
The Panthers jumped out early in the deciding 5th game, before NCC roared back behind
Meghan Granite and
Kelly Yagerhofer (10 kills, 8 digs, 10 aces) to win 15-8.
"It was a good team effort tonight," remarked Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez, "we fought through some adversity and we learned to win with our backs to the wall."
Halie Cintron had 25 assists, 9 digs and 3 kills, while
Courtney Rice added 7 kills and 11 digs and
Sabrina Gonzalez chipped in with 18 digs.
"I really want to thank the fans for their support," said Yaguez, "the atmosphere was electric in the Spartan Center tonight and the crowd really played a big role in our victory."
The Spatans are off until September 19th when they travel to Montgomery County Community College for a 7pm match.
Passaic falls to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in Region XIX.
