BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC softball team opened up Region XIX play on Saturday by sweeping Ocean County College, 4-3, 11-2.
In game one,
Morgan Neel's double in the bottom of the 7th plated the winning run as NCC fought back from a 3-2 deficit to earn the 4-3 victory.
Meghan Granite had a 2-run homerun in the first inning to give NCC a 2-1 lead, but Ocean scored 2 runs in the 6th to take a 3-2 advantage before the Spartan's 7th inning heroics.
Mel Morekin earned the victory on the mound, throwing a complete game.
In game two, NCC jumped out to an early 6-2 lead and cruised to an 11-2 victory.
Morgan Neel ran her hitting streak to 9 games with 3 for 4 performance and
Jaclyn Gates and
Katie Buskirk each added 2 hits for Northampton, which pounded 11 hits in the win.
Julia Weber earned her first collegiate victory, throwing a 4-hitter.
NCC improves to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in Region XIX.
Ocean falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action tomorrow when they host Camden County College at noon.
