BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The NCC Softball team improved to 10-2 in Region XIX with a 5-0, 6-3 sweep of Lehigh Carbon Community College in a conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
Mel Morekin (Whitehall) pitched a 3-hit shutout in game one and also hit her first collegiate homerun to lead NCC to the 5-0 victory.
Morgan Neel was 2 for 3 with a double.
In game two, NCC battled back from a 3-2 deficit with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th, led by Neel's 2-run double which gave the Spartans a 4-3 lead.
Julia Weber (Northampton) earned the win, allowing 1 earned run and 3 hits. Weber was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI and Neel was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.
NCC, which received votes in the latest NJCAA national poll, will face #1 ranked Brookdale Community College on Saturday in a doubleheader, beginning at noon.
The Spartans improve to 16-9 overall (10-2 Region XIX).
Lehigh Carbon falls to 3-11 overall and 3-9 in Region XIX.
