BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Freshman pitcher
Julia Weber won 2 games on the mound to lead NCC to a sweep of Bergen Community College on
Northampton for Hope Day on Sunday afternoon.
In game one, Weber came on in relief of starter Mel Morekin and didn't allow a run as the Spartans prevailed 4-1.
Katie Buskirk (Nazareth) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI to lead Northampton.
In game two, Weber threw a 2-hit complete game and was 2 for 4 at the plate with 4 RBI as NCC won 9-1.
Morgan Neel was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI as NCC improved to 12-4 in Region XIX.
The Spartans, who sold baked goods and other items to raise money for cancer research, also wore pink uniforms to show their support for cancer awareness and the search for a cure. The
Northampton for Hope game was orchestrated by Assistant Coach Shavaun Fisher, "As a staff, we feel it is very important for the girls to understand their role as college athletes, and raising money for cancer research was something the girls were very passionate about."
NCC, now 18-11 overall, travels to Middlesex County College on April 17th to face the Colts who are 8-6 in league play and 13-11 overall.
Bergen dropped to 11-5 in Region XIX and 11-17 overall with the loss.
