BLUE BELL, Pa. - The NCC softball team swept Montgomery County Community College in doubleheader on Thursday, taking game one 18-0 and the nightcap 16-1.
Mel Morekin threw a 2-hit shutout in game one, striking out 10, as
Jaclyn Gates,
Meghan Granite and
Julia Weber each collected two hits in the win.
In game two,
Emily Perruso threw a 3-hitter and went 4 for 4 at the plate with 6 RBI. Gates,
Katie Buskirk and
Alyssa Haderthauer each had 2 hits to lead NCC.
NCC improves to 12-7 overall (6-0 Region XIX). Montgomery, which is a member of Region XIX, was forced to drop their team to club status, thus the games did not count on NCC's region record., only on the overall mark. Montgomery will not be eligible for postseason due to their club status.
The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they host defending NJCAA national champions, Gloucester County College. The doubleheader is set to start at Noon.
