NEWTON, NJ - The Northampton softball team earned a doubleheader split vs. Sussex County Community College on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one 4-2 and then winning game two 14-6.
In game one, the Spartans committed four errors in the 3rd inning leading to 2 unearned runs and the Skylanders took advantage of the miscues to earn the upset victory.
Shelby Belzecky was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Northampton.
In game two,
Gabrielle Ruland earned her first collegiate victory and the Spartans pounded out 13 hits in the 14-6 victory.
Karissa Frankenfield was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI and
Alyssa Maffia and
Alyssa Gibson each went 2 for 3 to pace the Spartan attack.
The split puts Northampton at 5-3 overall and 5-3 in league play.
NCC returns to action on Tuesday when they host Division II Mercer County Community College in a non-league matchup at 3:30pm.
