TOMS RIVER, NJ -
Kristin Steiner homered twice in the second game to lead Northampton to a 10-2 victory, which salvaged a split of the doubleheader at Ocean County College on Tuesday afternoon.
Steiner was 4 for 5 in game two, hitting a solo homerun in the 3rd inning and a grand slam in the 7th,
Melanie Hippenstiel was 4 for 5 and
Jesi Cericola was 3 for 5 with a stolen base as Northampton bounced back from their game one loss.
In game one, the Spartans could not string together any offense, as the Vikings prevailed 2-0.
Melanie Hippenstiel struck out 8 Vikings, but NCC only managed five hits, two of which were by
Jesi Cericola.
Northampton ends the regular season with a 20-12 overall record and a 15-9 mark in Region XIX, which puts them in 5th place.
Ocean moves to 8-22 overall and 6-16 in Region XIX.
Playoff pairings will be officially announced this week, however unofficially the Spartans look to be traveling to Luzerne County Community College this weekend for a best of three series, with a doubleheader Saturday and the "if necessary" game on Sunday. The winner of that series will advance to the Region XIX Final Four at Middlesex County College.
