BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Middlesex County College improved to 15-1 in league play with a crucial Region XIX doubleheader sweep of Northampton on Sunday afternoon, dropping the Spartans 8-4 and 10-1.
Middlesex jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the top of the first and then held off the Spartans who loaded the bases twice, but came up empty.
Karissa Frankenfield was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored to lead NCC.
In game two,
Kristin Steiner was 2 for 3 with a run scored and
Shelby Belzecky was 2 for 2 with a double and a RBI, but the Spartans could only manage to plate one run in the 10-1 loss.
Frankenfield added two more hits in game two.
Northampton falls to 8-8 overall and 7-7 in Region XIX.
Middlesex, 15-1 in Region XIX, improves to 17-3 overall.
Northampton returns to the diamond on Tuesday when they host the County College of Morris in a non-league doubleheader at 3:30pm.
