BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton softball team bounced back from an 8-0 defeat in game one of their doubleheader with Division II County College of Morris to salvage a split with the Titans, with a 2-0 victory in game two on Tuesday afternoon.
In game one, the Spartans put two runners on in the first inning, but failed to score and Morris took advantage of Northampton errors to earn the 8-0 victory.
In game two,
Stephanie Rusu pitched a 4-hit shutout as the Spartans ended their 5-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory.
Shelby Belzecky (1 for 3) doubled in the 4th inning and scored on Rusu's single to left field. NCC added an insurance run in the 5th as
Kristin Steiner (1 for 3) grounded in to a fielders choice that scored
Alyssa Maffia for a 2-0 lead.
Northampton is now 9-9 overall and 7-7 in Region XIX
Morris moves to 23-12 overall.
Northampton returns to action Thursday when they host Montgomery County Community College at 3:30pm.
