LINCROFT, NJ - The Region XIX softball coaches assosciation has released the 2013 All-Region teams and three members of the Northampton team have been honored.
Kristin Steiner (Freedom) was named First Team All-Region as an infielder. Steiner is batting .434 with a slugging percentage of .726. The sophomore shortstop has a team-leading 7 triples, in addition to 3 homeruns and 34 RBI.
Freshman
Shelby Belzecky (Parkland) was named First Team All-Region as the designated player. Belzecky, who was the Spartans designated hitter most of the season, is batting .476, slugging .718 with 9 doubles and a team-high 39 RBI.
Melanie Hippenstiel (Whitehall) was named Third Team All-Region as a pitcher. The sophomore hurler has a 3.15 ERA and is averaging over 5.5 strikeouts per game. In addition, Hippenstiel is batting .400 with 4 homeruns and 34 RBI.
Northampton, 22-12, advanced to their 5th consecutive Region XIX Final Four with a sweep of 4th seeded Luzerne County Community College in their best of three series last weekend in Nanticoke, Pa.
The Spartans face #1 seed Brookdale at 10am on Saturday at Middlesex County College.
