Women's Soccer Closes Out First Season with Loss to Sussex

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's soccer team closed out their inaugural season with an 8-1 loss to Sussex County Community College on Thursday afternoon, finishing with a 3-8-0 record.

Leyna Motyka scored 45 seconds into the contest to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead, but Paige Penque tied the game at the 32:05 mark and Remington Knakkergaard scored a minute later to put the Skylanders up 2-1.

Olivia Bunge scored a second half hat-trick for Sussex as the exploded for 6 goals to earn the 8-1 victory to improve to 5-9-0.

Alexa Korinchak had 14 saves for Northampton as the Division I Skylanders outshot the Spartans 32 to 3.

"Overall I'm pleased with the first season," commented Head Coach Scott Cullen, "I think we achieved a number of our goals and we are already looking forward to next season."
