BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Playing with their playoff lives in the balance, the Bergen Community College softball team upset Northampton in game one to secure a berth in the Region XIX playoffs, before the Spartans rallied to win game two and earn the doubleheader split in Region XIX softball action on Monday afternoon.
Bergen, who entered the day needing one more victory to assure themselves of a spot in the tournament, played inspired and took advantage of two Northampton errors to earn a 7-5 victory in game one.
Jesi Cericola was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI and
Taylor Domenech and
Alyssa Maffia were each 2 for 3 to pace the NCC offense.

In game two, the Spartans used 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th to earn a 6-3 victory. 2013 All-American
Shelby Belzecky was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, while
Taryn Zietlow and
Hailley Houck were each 2 for 3.

Northampton, which was ranked 8th in the last NJCAA national poll, finishes 15-5 in Region XIX and will be the #3 seed for the upcoming Region XIX Tournament.
The Spartans end the regular season by hosting Division II Lackawanna College on Tuesday afternoon in a non-region matchup.
