Women's Soccer Downs Montgomery in Overtime

BLUE BELL, Pa. - The Northampton women's soccer team fell behind early, but rallied for a 3-2 overtime victory over Montgomery County Community College on Tuesday at Bach Field.

Marisa Christiansen scored 19 minutes into the game to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead, but Natalie Tuffy tied the contest just before halftime off an assist from Brittany Frantz to make the halftime score 1-1.

Christiansen scored her second goal of the afternoon at the 11 minute mark of the second half off a corner to regain the lead for MCCC.  Brittany Frantz tied the game at 2-2 off an assist from Danielle Heft at the 73 minute mark.  The contest remained scoreless for the final 17 minutes, leading to the overtime session.

Five minutes in the extra session, the Tuffy/Frantz connection hooked up again, giving the Spartans a 3-2 victory and their second win in program history.  "I'm really happy for the girls," commented Head Coach Scott Cullen, "they really played hard and deserved this victory tonight ... hopefully we can use this as momentum heading into the Rowan game on Thursday."

The Spartans outshot Montgomery 20 to 9, with Alexa Korinchak making 7 saves for Northampton.

Northampton, now 2-5-0, hosts Rowan College @ Gloucester County on Thursday at 4pm.

Montgomery falls to 0-4-0 with the loss.
