NEWTON, NJ - The Northampton Softball team improved to 6-4 in Region XIX with a doubleheader sweep of Sussex County Community College on Monday at Skylander Park. The Spartans took game one 15-1 and game two 5-3.
Kiley Kuchar (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) picked up the victory in game one, throwing a complete game 4-hitter with 2 strikeouts and was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and a double at the plate.
Bri Barr (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI,
Amber Farnholtz (Northampton, PA /Northampton ) was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and
Rachel Bard (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) was 2 for 2 with 3 RBI as the Spartans totaled 12 hits in the 15-1 victory.
In game two,
MacKenzie Caffrey (Easton, PA/Pleasant Valley ) earned the win, scattering 9 hits and striking out 2, while adding a double and a RBI at the plate. Â Kuchar went 2 for 4 with a RBI, while
Samantha Zeruth (Bangor, PA/Bangor),
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley ),
Bri Barr (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond) and Caffrey each had one hit as Northampton prevailed 5-3.
The sweep improves Northampton to 6-8 overall and 6-4 in Region XIX, while Sussex falls to 2-10 overall and 0-10 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are scheduled to host Union County College on Wednesday at 3:30pm.Â
