BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Softball team exploded for 49 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Union County College on Wednesday afternoon, taking game one 23-1 and game two 26-3 to even their record at 8-8.
In game one,
Kiley Kuchar (Bangor, PA/Bangor ), who earned the victory on the mound, was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI,
Rachel Bard (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI and
MacKenzie Caffrey (Easton, PA/Pleasant Valley ) was 3 for 5 with a double and 4 RBI as the Spartans pounded out 15 hits in the 5-inning run-rule victory.
In game two,
MacKenzie Caffrey (Easton, PA/Pleasant Valley ) improved to 5-5 on the season, picking up the win while allowing 3 hits and 2 earned runs, striking out 5. Â Caffey was 5 for 6 with 4 RBI at the plate,
Amanda Decker (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and 2 walks and
Rachel Bard (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) finished 4 for 6 with 5 RBI. Â
Bri Barr (Bethlehem, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond),
Kiley Kuchar (Bangor, PA/Bangor ),
Samantha Miller (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty ) and
Taylor Domenech (Bangor, PA/Bangor) each had two hits as the Spartans recorded 23 hits in the 26-3 victory.
Northampton improves to 8-8 overall (6-4 Region XIX) while Union County falls to 0-14.
The Spartans return to the field on Thursday when they host Middlesex County College in a Region XIX doubleheader at 3:30pm.Â
