VINELAND, NJ - In an offensive showcase featuring 16 total goals, the Northampton women's soccer team outscored Cumberland County College, 11-5, on Saturday to improve to 1-2-0 on the season.
"It was the wildest game I have ever been involved in." remarked Head Coach
Scott Cullen, "both teams were executing offensively, but there were obviously some defensive miscues."
Laura Sarria (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) scored a school-record 4 goals and
Natalie Tuffy (Scott Township, Pa /Lakeland) added 3 as the Spartans set a record for goals in a game. Â
Erika Jo Johnson (Kresgeville, PA /Faith Christian ) added 2 goals and
Judea Cardwell (Easton, PA /Easton ) and
Shyra Cardwell (Easton, PA /Easton) each had a goal to round out the scoring for Northampton. Â
Alexa Korinchak (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley ) recorded 7 saves while notching the victory in goal for Northampton as the Spartans outshot the Dukes 33 to 12.
Tuffy scored 12 minutes into the game and then added her second tally just two minutes later to give Northampton a 2-0 lead, but Cumberland tied the score at 2-2 with 11 minutes remaining before halftime. Â Sarria and Johnson each scored prior to halftime and Cumberland added a goal to make the halftime score 4-3. Â
