Volleyball Struggles, But Downs Lackawanna For 9th Straight Win

SCRANTON, Pa. - By all accounts it was not their best night, but in the end the Northampton women's volleyball team still came home with a victory on Thursday night, downing Division II Lackawanna College, 25-19, 25-13, 24-26, 25-17 for a 3-1 victory at Mecca Hall.

"I'm disappointed in our effort tonight," remarked Head Coach Adrian Yaguez, "I didn't see the toughness out there on the floor that we need to be an elite program ... too many mental mistakes and other errors that will cost us down the road." The Spartans committed 21 attack errors, had 7 serving errors and 7 receiving errors, "We did not play championship-level volleyball tonight," stated Yaguez.

Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South ) led the Spartans with 13 kills, followed by Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley ) with 12, Morgan Barnes (Macungie, PA/Salem Christian ) with 5 and Rachael Caywood (Bath, PA/Nazareth ) with 5. Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) recorded 12 digs, Megan Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) had 11 digs and setter Anona Bauman (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) notched 32 assists and 6 digs.

Northampton, which won its 9th consecutive match, improves to 12-3 on the season, while Lackawanna falls to 5-8-1.

The Spartans host Bucks County Community College and Lehigh Carbon in a tri-match this Saturday at the Arthur L. Scott Center, starting at 11:00am.
