Northampton's Shelly Named Region XIX Player of the Year

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Northampton outside hitter Katrina Shelly (Mountville, PA /Hempfield ) has been named Region XIX Player of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday evening. 

Shelly, a 5-11 freshman from Mountville, Pa, ranks 4th in the NJCAA in kills per set (4.13) and 7th in total kills (326).  Shelly was named EPAC Player of the Year earlier this month, in addition to earning All-Tournament honors at the Butler County Community College Invitational and MVP honors at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament at Onondaga Communty College.

Joining Shelly on the All-Region team are Kalli Walling (Saylorsburg, PA /Pleasant Valley) and Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley). Walling, who earned First Team accolades, ranks in the top 30 in the country in digs per set and total digs.  She recently earned EPAC First Team all conference honors.  Lozier, a First Team selection in 2015, earns Second Team honors this season.  Lozier is second on the team in kills with 158 and leads in blocks with 128.

The Spartans, who are hosting the Region XIX Championship this weekend, are looking for their 5th consecutive Region XIX title. The Spartans will face Harrisburg at 11am on Saturday in the first semifinal, followed by Montgomery and Ocean, with the winners meeting at approximately 3pm.
