BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton softball team dropped an EPAC doubleheader to Lackawanna College on Thursday afternoon, falling 3-1 and 10-2 at Spartan Field.
GAME ONE (Lost 3-0)The Spartans only managed 3 hits in game one, with
Miranda Youngkin (Easton, PA /Easton ),
Samantha Zeruth (Bangor, PA/Bangor) and
Kailee Dube (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley ) each picking up hits. The Falcons scored their first run in the second inning and then added two runs in the 4th off an error with two outs.
GAME TWO (Lost 10-2)Game two was very similar to game one, as the Spartans struggled to manufacture any offense.
Miranda Youngkin (Easton, PA /Easton ) doubled to lead off the 4th inning and
Kailee Dube (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley ) followed that with her 4th homerun of the season, but it was too little too late as the Spartans trailed 7-0 prior to the homerun, giving up 6 runs in the top of the 4th.
Dube finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI,
Abby Monks (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh ) was 1 for 2,
Cathryn Cusano (Easton, PA /Easton) was 1 for 2 and Youngkin was 1 for 3.
Sierra Flurer (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth ) took the loss, striking out one in falling to 7-10 on the season.
The sweep drops Northampton to 9-10-1 overall and 4-2 in the EPAC.
Lackawanna, a NJCAA Division II member which competes in the EPAC, improved to 20-11 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
The Spartans will look to clinch a playoff berth on Saturday when they travel to Camden County College for a Region XIX doubleheader starting at noon. If the Spartans can pick up one victory on Saturday, they will qualify for the Region XIX playoffs after a one year absence.
