BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's soccer team is still searching for their first Region XIX victory after a 1-1 tie with Bucks County Community College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Spartans took an early 1-0 lead after
Olivia Kelly (Milford, PA /Delaware Valley ) found the back of the net just 10 minutes into the contest. Northampton held that lead until 22 minutes remained in the game when Bucks was awarded penalty kick, which they converted, to make it 1-1. The teams remained deadlocked through the remainder of the second half and two 10-minute overtime periods.
"It is somewhat disappointing, as I thought we played well enough to win," commented Head Coach
Scott Cullen, "the penalty kick was a tough call, but we had some good chances to score after that and during the extra session, but we just didn't convert. Our defense was very solid, led by
Samantha Borrell (Brodheadsville, PA /Faith Christian ),
Alexis McKenna (Easton, PA /Easton ) and
Shyra Cardwell (Easton, PA /Easton )."
The tie puts Northampton at 1-2-1 overall and 0-2-1 in Region XIX.
Bucks is now 0-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Region.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday at Montgomery County Community College.
