SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - Lehigh Carbon Community College, playing the first women's soccer game in school history, defeated visiting Northampton, 2-1 on Saturday afternoon, in a non-league matchup.
The Cougars got on the board first, courtesy of a penalty kick before
Olivia Kelly (Milford, PA /Delaware Valley ) scored to tie the contest at 1 apiece. The Cougars scored the game winner off a deflection on a corner kick to earn the victory.
Melissa Schnappauf (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) had 7 saves for Northampton, while
Abby Dempsey (Bangor, PA /Faith Christian ) and
Laura Sarria (Easton, PA /Notre Dame - Green Pond ) combined for 10 shots.
"Very disappointing result," commented Head Coach
Scott Cullen, "I didn't think we played our style of soccer, but credit LCCC, and especially their goaltender, they played well."
Northampton, now 2-3-1 overall, hosts Penn St. Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday with a 2:00pm start time.
