BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Softball team swept Camden County College in a Region XIX doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, taking game one 5-4 and game two 9-1 in 5 innings.
GAME ONE - Down 1-0 in the 2nd inning,
Samantha Cordova (Hinsdale, NY/Hinsdale (NY)) laced a RBI single to score
Abby Monks (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh ) to tie the game at 1-1. Â The Cougars retook the lead in the 5th, but the Spartans responded with a RBI single from
Samantha Santucci (Springfield, NJ/J. Dayton High (NJ)), which scored
Sierra Flurer (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) who had doubled. Â
Camden added a run in the 6th to make it 3-2 Cougars, but the Spartans tacked on 3 runs in the bottom the 6th to take a 5-3 lead. Â
Darion Jacoby (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton ) singled with the bases loaded, scoring one run, followed by a single from
Miranda Youngkin (Easton, PA/Easton) which scored two more runs.
Camden scored a run in the top of the 7th to make it 5-4, but the Cougars last chance to tie the game ended in a runner being thrown out at home to end the game. Â
Erin Happel (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) got the win, going 7 innings, allowing 4 runs and striking out 4. Â Santucci, Jacoby and Youngkin were each 2 for 4, while Monks finished 2 for 3.

Miranda Youngkin (Easton, PA/Easton),
Sierra Flurer (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and
Abby Monks (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh ), playing their last scheduled regular season home game of their careers.Â
GAME TWO - Camden once again jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, but
Miranda Youngkin (Easton, PA/Easton) laced a RBI single to tie the score after the 1st. Â The Spartans then exploded for 7 runs in the bottom of the 2nd, led by a 2-run single from Yougkin and a double from Happel. Â Northampton took an 8-1 lead into the 5th and then added the 9th run to earn the run-rule shortened victory. Â
Youngkin finished 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and 2 stolen bases (giving her 33 on the season), while
Sierra Flurer (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth)Â was 1 for 2 and Santucci was 3 for 3 with a RBI.
The sweep pushes Northampton to 14-16 overall and 9-7 in Region XIX.
Camden falls to 15-18 overall and 11-5 in Region XIX.
The Spartans will host Middlesex on Wednesday in a make-up game from Saturday. Â The doubleheader will start at 3:30pm.
