LINCROFT, NJ - Brookdale Community College softball rolled to a doubleheader sweep over Northampton on Saturday afternoon at Jersey Blue Park, winning 8-2 in game one and 15-1 in game two.
The Spartans got on the board first in game one as
Sierra Flurer (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) reached on an error and then scored off of a
Samantha Santucci (Springfield, NJ/J. Dayton High (NJ)) double to give Northampton an early 1-0 lead. Brookdale tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Spartans responded in the 3rd as
Erin Happel (Bangor, PA/Bangor ) laced a RBI single to make it 2-1.
The Jersey Blues countered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to make it 8-2 and then clamped down defensively to shut out the Spartans for the remainder of the game to earn the victory.
In game two,
Samantha Santucci (Springfield, NJ/J. Dayton High (NJ)) provided the only highlights for Northampton, as she finished 2 for 2 with a RBI as the Jersey Blues erupted for 10 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to propel themselves to a 15-1 victory in 5 innings.
Northampton falls to 3-11 overall and 0-4 in Region XIX, while Brookdale improves to 16-6 overall and 4-1 in the Region.
The Spartans will look to recover quickly as the travel to Vineland, NJ on Sunday to face Cumberland County College in a doubleheader slated to begin at noon.
