BETHLEHEM, Pa.-
Abby Dempsey (Bangor, PA/Faith Christian ) scored two goals and assisted on another to help lead the Northampton women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Lehigh Carbon Community College on Thursday afternoon in their home opener.
Dempsey got things going early when she found
Amanda Sroka (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) on a perfect cross that Sroka one-timed into the back of the net to give the Spartans an early 1-0 advantage. 15 minutes later, Dempsey converted a penalty kick to give the Spartans a 2-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.
Dempsey recorded her 2nd goal of the game 20 minutes into the second half to put the Spartans ahead 3-0, which would prove to the final tally of the contest. Dempsey, who now has 6 goals on the season, is ranked 2nd in the NJCAA in goals scored.
Melissa Schnappauf (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) recorded 5 saves as she notched her 2nd shutout of the season between the pipes.
"I thought we played a very complete match," commented Head Coach
Scott Cullen, "we controlled possession, made some good runs and limited their offensive opportunities. I also wanted to thank the fans for their support, we had a tremendous showing today ... it was a great environment."
The Spartans, now 3-0-0, are off until September 5th when they travel to Blue Bell, Pa to face the Mustangs of Montgomery County Community College at 3:30pm.
