NEW YORK, NY - The Northampton Volleyball team went 2-1 on day one of the Fashion Institute of Technology Invitational, downing Suffolk County Community College (NY) and Fashion Institute (NY), while falling to Sandhills Community College (NC). The Spartans will return to the Big Apple tomorrow to face Queensborough Community College at 11am and Fashion Institute at 3pm.
Match One vs. Suffolk County Community College (NY)
Katrina Shelly (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield ) had 16 kills,
Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) recorded 33 assists and
Brianna Bair (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) notched 10 digs as the Spartans opened the FIT Invitational with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-17 sweep of Suffolk.
Match Two vs. Sandhills Community College (NC)
The second match of the day saw the Spartans drop their first regular season match since September 6th, 2016, falling to the Flyers of Sandhills, 18-25, 20-25, 18-25.
Katrina Shelly (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield ) recorded 14 kills,
Emily Petrat (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom ) had 6 service points and
Bridget Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) registered 6 digs, but 26 hitting errors proved to be the downfall for Northampton.
Match Three vs. Fashion Institute of Technology (NY)
The Spartans rebounded from their loss to sweep FIT 25-9, 25-19, 25-11 to finish the day 2-1.
Katrina Shelly (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield ) had 9 kills,
Alysce Molchan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) had 21 assists and 4 aces and
Bridget Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) finished with 9 digs to pace the Spartans.
Northampton, now 3-1 overall, will return to action at FIT on Sunday at 11:00am.
