BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Rowan College @ Gloucester County scored what proved to be the game winner two minutes into the game and held on to win the battle of nationally-ranked women's soccer teams on Saturday at Spartan Field.
The 5th ranked Roadrunners scored their second goal 12 minutes later and held a 2-0 halftime advantage.
Northampton battled back in the second half, but was unable to break through the stingy RCGC defense. The Roadrunners added an insurance goal with 2 minutes remaining in the game, to make the final 3-0.
Melissa Schnappauf (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) recorded 4 saves as RCGC outshot the Spartans 8 to 3.
Amanda Sroka (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) had 2 shots for Northampton with
Samantha Borrell (Brodheadsville, PA /Faith Christian ) was credited with one.
The loss drops Northampton, which received votes in the last NJCAA poll, to 6-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in Region XIX.
5th ranked RCGC improves to 8-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in Region XIX.
The Spartans are back in action on Tuesday at Lehigh Carbon at 3:30pm.
