BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In what Head Coach
Adrian Yaguez termed, "A total team effort," the Northampton women's volleyball team opened the 2018 campaign with a convincing three game sweep of last season's Region championship opponent, Raritan Valley Community College, on Thursday evening at the Spartan Center.
Amber Werley (Bath, PA /Northampton ),
Madelyn Deloglos (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) and
Bridget Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame - Green Pond ) combined for 10 kills and
Savanna Jordan (Bath, PA /Bethlehem Catholic) recorded 12 assists as the Spartans won 25-10, 25-20, 25-17.
"I don't know what the season holds for us," remarked Yaguez, "but I do know that I really like the chemistry of this team right now and I think we can continue to improve and be a team to be reckoned with in this Region. We will definitely have a different style this year than in the past, we don't have that one big hammer in the middle, but we have a lot of solid parts that seem to fit together pretty well."
Abby Orth (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) had 10 digs,
Kelsey Miller (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg (NJ)) 5, Jordan 7 and Crimi added 11 as the Spartans defense carried the team to the opening night victory.
The win was Northampton's 92nd consecutive victory over a Region XIX Division III opponent, since falling to Passaic on October 22nd, 2011.
Northampton, ranked 6th in the NJCAA preseason poll, now 1-0, is off until September 6th when they will host NJCAA Division II Lackawanna College at 6pm.
