BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In game one of a women's / men's soccer doubleheader, the Northampton women's team fell to Middlesex 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime,
Kristen McKenna (Easton, PA/Easton) fought through traffic and punched home a goal to tie the contest at 1-1 early in the second half.
The contest see-sawed back and forth until Middlesex was able to break-through and take a 2-1 lead. The Blue Colts added 2 more goals late in the contest to ensure the 4-1 victory.
Northampton goaltender
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA/Bangor) recorded 8 saves before leaving the game due to an injury, while back-up keeper Desiree Oritz notched 3 saves.
"The score really does not indicate how close the game was," remarked Head Coach
Erik Daly, "we got a really good effort out of the girls today, it simply didn't translate into a positive result. I thought
Yuna Kang (South Korea/Salem Christian) really stepped up today, along with
Christine Farrell (Morrisville, PA/Pennsbury)."
The Spartans, now 2-1-0 overall, host Bucks County Community College on Tuesday at 3:30pm.
