EDISON, NJ - The Northampton men's soccer team picked up an important crossover road victory on Saturday, downing GSAC member Middlesex County College, 2-0, at Blue Colt Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, the Spartans were forced to play a man down for the final 40 minutes of action due to an ejection.
Stivan Kumbarov (Wind Gap, PA /Pen Argyl) opened the scoring for Northampton off a thru ball from
Victor Bardales (Easton, PA /Easton ) to give Northampton a 1-0 lead with 36 minutes to play.
Kumbarov then added an insurance goal 10 minutes later, taking a briiliant pass from Bardales and beating two defenders to give the Spartans a 2-0 advantage. The two goals for Kumbarov give him 16 for the season, which ranks 7th in the country.

Nick Mazzella (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) and the defense, led by
David Trout (Saylorsburg, PA /Faith Christian ),
Jacob Almanzar (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) and
Taylor Harbaugh (Exeter, PA /Exeter ) then shut the door on the Blue Colts over the final 26 minutes to preserve the 2-0 victory.
Mazzella finished with 17 saves in earning his 2nd shutout of the season.
"The guys are really starting to pick up the style of play we have been trying to implement," commented Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, "they really turned it up a level when we went down a man for the final 40 minutes and earned the win."
The victory moves Northampton to 8-3-0 overall and 7-2-0 in Region XIX.
Middlesex falls to 4-8-2 overall and 3-6-1 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday with the first of two big EPAC games, as they host conference leading Bucks County Community College (10-2-0) on Tuesday before traveling to Montgomery County Community College on Thursday.
