BETHLEHEM, Pa. - 3rd seeded Owens Community College (OH) upset 2nd seeded North Country Community College, 54-47, in the national semi-finals on Friday evening to advance to the NJCAA Championship game on Saturday at 7pm, where they will face top-seeded Hostos Community College.
The Express (25-8) jumped out to an 18-11 lead after the 1st quarter, but the Saints battled back, cutting the margin to just 4 at halftime, at 28-24.
After a deadlocked 3rd quarter, Owens was able to outscore the Saints 15-12 and earn the berth in the title game.
Moreina Moore scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Whitney Thames added 7 points and 12 boards to lead Owens.
North Country, which suffered just their 3rd loss of the season, was led by Ty Taylor with 15 points and 4 steals and Kayla Carder had a game-high 17 rebounds.
The Saints (27-3) will face Western Technical College in the 3rd place game on Saturday at 5pm.
Hostos (27-5) will be in search of their second consecutive title when they take the floor vs. Owens on Saturday, after defeating Rock Valley last year in the title game.
