BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The field is set for the 2019 NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball National Championship, set for Northampton Community College, March 14-16.
"We're excited to host again," remarked Director of Athletics
Troy Tucker, "when we hosted in 2015, Rock Valley defeated Roxbury in overtime in the championship game, so we really could not have asked for more ... this year we have a great field, we are looking forward to a very competitive tournament once again."
Hostos Community College (NY), the defending national champion, earned the number one seed and will face #8 Anne Arundel Community College (MD) at noon on Thursday the 14th in the opening game of the tournament. The Caimans enter the tournament at 25-5, while the Riverhawks earned the District G title, despite a 9-13 regular season record.
North Country Community College (NY) is the tournament's #2 seed and they will face 7th seeded Passaic County Community College (NJ) at 7pm on the 14th. The Saints, 26-2, captured the District A title, while Passiac downed Brookdale to win District E.
Owens Community College (OH) is the tournament's #3 seed and will face 6th seeded UConn - Avery Point at 5pm in the opening round. Owens (23-8) downed perennial powerhouse Rock Valley College to advance, while the Pointers (15-13) took down the nation's number one team, Massasoit, to win the District F championship.
The #4 / #5 matchup pits Hibbing Commuity College (MN) vs. Western Technical College (IL). Hibbing (27-2) won the District H championship (Region 13b), while Western Tech captured District C (Region 13a).
Games will be played at 12pm/2pm/5pm/7pm on the 14th, 15th and 16th, with the national championship game set for 7pm on the 16th.
