BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's soccer team opened the 2019 season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Bucks County Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field to kick-off the
Matt Gurnari Era.
Northampton's first year head coach picked up his first collegiate victory, as sophomore goalkeeper
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) turned back 11 shots and
Hannah Seltzer (Reading, PA /Schuylkill Valley) scored a goal and added an assist to pace the offense.Â
"I was really proud of the girls today," remarked Gurnari, "they played hard and played very well together as a unit, despite our lack of practice time."
Seltzer opened the scoring 30 minutes into the contest when she found the back of the net off an assist from
Angelique Herrera (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl), giving Northampton a 1-0 lead.Â
Grace Jacoby (East Stroudsburg, PA /East Stroudsburg North ) added an insurance goal just 10 minutes into the second half, with the assist to Seltzer.
Cassaro earned her 5th career shutout, putting her only one behind the school record of 6.Â
Bucks outshot the Spartans 16-12.Â
Northampton, now 1-0-0 overall, travels to Montgomery County Community College on Thursday to face the Mustangs at 3:30pm.Â
Bucks falls to 2-2-0 overall.Â
