CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. -
Hannah Seltzer (Reading, PA /Schuylkill Valley) scored 5 minutes into overtime to give the Northampton women's soccer team a thrilling 1-0 victory over Montgomery County Community College on Thursday afternoon at the Proving Grounds.
After a scorless 90 minutes of play, Seltzer was able to get free in the extra stanza and lead the Spartans to their second consecutive victory to start the season.
"I can't say enough about how hard these girls worked today," commented Head Coach
Matt Gurnari, "they just continued to battle and would not quit ... it was a really good win for us."
The Spartans outshot Montgomery 8 to 3 and had a 7 to 4 advantage in corner kicks.
Montana Cassaro (Bangor, PA /Bangor ) made 3 saves to record her second shutout of the season and 6th of her career, tying her for the all-time program record.
Northampton, now 2-0-0 overall, 2-0-0 in Region XIX and 2-0-0 in the EPAC, return to action on Saturday at Lehigh Carbon Community College. Kick-off is scheduled for 11am.
Montgomery falls to 1-1-0 with the loss.
