BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton Men's Soccer team will kick-off their 2019 campaign on Tuesday September 3rd when they host Penn St.- Lehigh Valley at 4pm.
The Spartans, under second year Head Coach
Mario Barrantes, enter the 2019 season with a 27-man roster, addressing one of the main issues of the 2018 campaign. "Depth was really an issue for us last year," remarked Barrantes, "talent-wise we were pretty solid, but we had to rely on the starters to play way too many minutes, which hurt us in the second half in a number of games."
Northampton returns four players from last years 4-9-0 squad;
Jacob Almanzar (Bangor, PA /Bangor ),
Andrew Seymour (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth),
William Winters (Albrightsville, PA/Pocono Mt. West ) and
Christian Reichert (East Stroudsburg, PA /E. Stroudsburg - North ) return to provide leadership to a squad dominated by freshmen. "We will be looking to those four to provide the younger guys with guidance on what to expect throughout the season," commented Barrantes.Â
After opening the season vs. PSU-LV on Tuesday, the Spartans will host 8th ranked Brookdale Community College on Saturday at noon.Â
Penn State enters the contest with an 0-1-0 record, after dropping their opener to RCSJ-Gloucester.Â
