SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - The 10th ranked Northampton baseball team pounded out 19 hits and scored 21 runs in a dominating 21-1 victory over NJCAA Division II Lehigh Carbon Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Field.
Northampton jumped out early, plating two runs in the 1st inning, helped by two LCCC errors, a stolen base and a
Isaiah Lockette (Steelton, PA/Steelton-Highspire) RBI single, and never looked back.
The Spartans, who improved to 16-0 all-time vs. their Lehigh Valley counterparts, scored runs in the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th innings en route to the biggest margin of victory in the series history.
Luke Spencer (Dallas, PA/Lake-Lehman) led the offensive explosion with a 3 for 5 performance, including 4 RBI, a walk and 2 runs scored.
Alex Kok (Newmarket, ON - Canada/) finished 2 for 2 with 2 RBI,
Chase Herb (Hegins, PA/Tri-Valley) was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI and
Zane Cook (Allentown, PA/Emmaus) was 1 for 1 with 2 RBI.
Cole McGourty (Asbury, NJ/Voorhees (NJ)) registered the win on the mound, improving to 4-0 on the season, throwing 4 innings, allowing no runs on 1 hit while striking out 8 and walking none.
Tyler Sharayko (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) and
Ethan Ferraro (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown Area) finished the game off in relief, combining to work 3 innings, allowing no hits, 1 run (no earned), striking out 1 and walking 2.
The win moves the nationally-ranked Spartans to 18-4 overall heading into their Thursday matchup with Division II Lackawanna College. The first pitch is set for 3:30pm at Spartan Park.
Andrew Sorrentino had Lehigh Carbon's only hit, as the Cougars fell to 1-5 on the season.
