22 Seasons Later, Wolfe Still Winning

Wolfe has won 397 games in 21+ seasons at NCC
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In a profession where turnover is the norm and at a level where coaching postions are typically like revolving doors, Northampton women's basketball coach Art Wolfe is the exception.

Wolfe, who will lead his team into action tonight as the 2nd seeded Lady Spartans host 7th seeded Gloucester County College in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XIX Tournament, is finishing his 22nd season at NCC.

"His success is one thing," remarked Director of Athletics Troy Tucker, "however, his longevity is what amazes me... you just don't see that type of commitment at this level."

Wolfe has amassed an overall record of 397 wins and 160 losses during his tenure at Northampton, including 9 EPCC championships, 5 PCAA titles and a Region XIX runner-up finish last season.

During his 22 seasons, Wolfe has only had two losing campaigns (1994-95 and 1998-99), and he was won at least 16 games in 18 of his 22 seasons at the helm.  "I'm not sure people realize how difficult it is to coach at the two-year level," stated Tucker, "you are constantly recruiting, (given the fact that you only have your players for two years), and you are trying to balance your player's work and academic schedules, in addition to basketball."

Wolfe, who has guided the 2011-12 Lady Spartans to a 21-4 mark overall (20-2 in league play) and a national top-10 ranking, has shown no signs of letting go anytime soon.  "I don't think he has even pondered retirement," quipped Tucker, "he is out recruiting and seems more energized every day."
