SYRACUSE, NY - Sullivan County Community College pulled away from a one point halftime lead to down the Northampton women's basketball team 60-48 at the Onondaga Lazer Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Sullivan, which led 29-28 at the intermission, used their superior size to wear down the Spartans in the second half, getting numerous second opportunities off the offensive boards to break the game open and earn the victory.
Brianna Morales led Northampton with 21 points and Alaura Workman added 9, while Lacey LeRezza paced the Spartans on the boards with 7.
"Obviously there are some things we need to work on, but it's early," commented Northampton mentor
Art Wolfe, "for many of these girls this was their first collegiate game, so I think they saw the intensity and effort that is needed for a full 40 minutes in order to compete at this level."
The Spartans, 0-1, will return to action tomorrow (Sunday) in the consolation game.
