READING, Pa. - Delaware County Community College denied Northampton in their quest for a 4-peat of the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tennis championship, downing the Spartans 35 to 34 on Saturday at the Hillcrest Racquet Club.
In a tightly contested match, Northampton gained an early lead when
Geoff Hart and
Kyle Manley won the doubles championship, 6-1, 6-0 over Kamin Chu and Nick Sworob of DCCC.
Raidy Alvarez advanced to the men's singles semi-finals, where he fell to Delaware's Sam Spector, 6-3, 6-3.
On the women's side,
Nicole Sharga and
Ashley Gildner avenged their only regular season defeat by topping Cassidy Branigan and April Phillips 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the doubles championship match.
The championship was decided in the women's singles final, as Sharga fell to Branigan, 6-4, 6-4, thus giving Delaware the championship.
Manley, Hart, Sharga and Gildner each earned All-Conference honors.
Northampton, the 2010, 2011 and 2012 EPAC Champions, finished the regular season with a 7-1 record, tied for first place with Delaware.
