Delaware Denies Northampton's Quest for 4-Peat

READING, Pa. - Delaware County Community College denied Northampton in their quest for a 4-peat of the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Tennis championship, downing the Spartans 35 to 34 on Saturday at the Hillcrest Racquet Club.

In a tightly contested match, Northampton gained an early lead when Geoff Hart and Kyle Manley won the doubles championship, 6-1, 6-0 over Kamin Chu and Nick Sworob of DCCC.  Raidy Alvarez advanced to the men's singles semi-finals, where he fell to Delaware's Sam Spector, 6-3, 6-3.

On the women's side, Nicole Sharga and Ashley Gildner avenged their only regular season defeat by topping Cassidy Branigan and April Phillips 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the doubles championship match.

The championship was decided in the women's singles final, as Sharga fell to Branigan, 6-4, 6-4, thus giving Delaware the championship.

Manley, Hart, Sharga and Gildner each earned All-Conference honors.

Northampton, the 2010, 2011 and 2012 EPAC Champions, finished the regular season with a 7-1 record, tied for first place with Delaware.
