BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Tennis coaching icon Jack Master has decided to call it a career after 36 ultra-successful seaons at Northampton.

Master, who began his coaching career at NCC in the Spring of 1978, is a 12-time conference coach of the year who accumulated an overall record of 210-103 during his tenure.

Consistency was a hallmark throughout Master's career, as his teams were always in contention for conference and state championships.  Since 1996, Master's teams went a combined 119-19 (86%).  His 2010 squad lost a match on April 22, 2010 and then the team did not lose again until exactly three years to the day on April 22, 2013.  In between that time, Northampton won three consecutive EPAC and PCAA championships.

An inaugural member of the Northampton Athletic Hall of Fame, Master's impact was far more than just wins and losses.  Master took over an 0-9 team and promptly went 4-5 in his first season.  Master impacted so many lives during his 36 year run at the College, providing opportunities to hundreds of student-athletes and serving as a mentor to a number of future NCC Hall of Fame members; Betty Krupka (2008), David Brown (2009), and Amy Yeager (2012).

"Jack epitomized what you look for in a coach," commented Director of Athletics Troy Tucker, "professional, organized, energetic and he was great teacher of the game who always put the student-athlete first ... there is no question that we will miss him."
