Volleyball Falls to Genesee CC in Cara Bryant Tournament

SYRACUSE, NY - As the two-time defending champions, Head Coach Adrian Yaguez knew his Northampton Volleyball team would have a target on their back this weekend as they looked for a three-peat at the Cara Bryant Memorial Tournament at Onondaga Community College.

What Yaguez didn't know was how his young, but talented, team would respond to the pressure ... "We didn't play well," commented Yaguez, "I thought we were a little tight and I think that dictated how we played ... we definitely did not play with the swagger of a top-10 team."

The Spartans, who went 1-1 on the opening day of the tournament, went 1-2 on Saturday to finish 2-3, falling to Genesee Community College 25-20, 23-25, 11-15 in the quarterfinals.

Northampton opened Saturday by knocking off Finger Lakes Community College 25-18, 25-18 as Bridget Lozier (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley ) recorded 10 kills and Hannah Park (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle ) added 8 digs. In their second match of the day, the Spartans faced nationally-ranked Monroe Community College (who had given Northampton two of their four losses on the season) and lost 20-25, 11-25. Lozier had 6 kills and Megan Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) had 6 digs in the defeat.

The Spartans were 2-2 after pool play and drew the #5 seed and faced 4th seeded Genesee Community College (NY) in the quaterfinals, where the Cougars downed Northampton in three sets. Jax Babezki (Warrington, PA/Central Bucks South ) had 10 kills, Morgan Barnes (Macungie, PA/Salem Christian ) had 5 kills and Anona Bauman (Northampton, PA/Northampton ) registered 27 assists and 4 dig in the loss.

Northampton, now 21-6 overall, will travel to Byrn Mawr, PA on Tuesday to face NJCAA Division II Harcum College in thier last regular season match of the season.
