Box Score NBETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team outscored nationally-ranked Middlesex 23 to 17 in the 4th quarter to earn a 78-70 victory over the Colts on Thursday night at the Arthur L. Scott Center.
In a back and forth contest between the top two teams in Region XIX, Northampton shot 44% from the field and outrebounded Middlesex 31-29 to avenge an earlier season loss in Edison (76-61 loss on December 8th). "The ladies really played hard tonight and executed down the stretch," commented Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "we got contributions from everyone on the team and it was absolutely a total team effort tonight."
The Spartan defense forced Middlesex into 26 turnovers and blocked 6 shots, while Northampton was able to protect the ball and work it inside to
Zeniyah Sanders (Northampton, PA/Northampton ), who led the Spartans with 22 points on 10 of 16 shooting from the field.
Tytiona Goodwin (Allentown, PA /Dieruff) came off the bench to score 11 points and grab a team-high 9 rebounds, while
Julia Craig (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) added 17 points and 3 assists.
The victory propels Northampton to 12-3 overall and 10-1 in Region XIX.
Middlesex falls to 12-2 overall and 11-1 in Region XIX.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they host the Community College of Philadelphia at 1pm.
Ziykara Hicks, who ranks 3rd in the country in scoring at 24.8ppg, led Middlesex with 31 points.
