NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Northampton women's basketball team clinched their 5th consecutive EPAC championship with an 88-22 victory over Bucks County Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Cipriano Center. The win gives Northampton a 7-1 conference record, which assures them at least a tie of the conference title, depending on the outcome of the Lehigh Carbon and Montgomery game.
Despite a slow start, the Spartans ended with all players scoring a minimum of 8 points, including four players in double figures.
Dom Moser (Easton, PA/Easton ) led the Spartans with 16 points and 5 steals, while
Katie Alvarez (Allentown, PA /Dieruff) added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Laura Sweger (Elizabethville, PA /Upper Dauphin ) had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds,
Deana McKeller (East Stroudsburg, PA/E. Stroudsburg South) scored 13 points and
Taylor Turrentine (Bushkill, PA/East Stroudsburg North ) and
Kye Adams (East Stroudsburg, PA/E. Stroudsburg South ) each had 7 assists to pace the Spartan attack.
"It took us awhile to get going," commented Head Coach
Tara Belfield, "but we were able to get things going in the second half and really take control of the game."
Northampton is now 14-5 overall and 11-3 in Region XIX, while Bucks falls to 3-17 overall and 0-12 in Region XIX, including an 0-8 mark in conference play.
The Spartans return to action when they will travel to their Monroe County Campus in Tannersville, PA to face Sussex County Community College at 5pm.
