Hall of Fame
A member of the Northampton Community College family since 1987, Mardi McGuire-Closson spent her career as an advocate for students. Mardi began her career as director of admissions and was then promoted to Dean of Students in 1992, eventually being named Vice President for Student Affairs in 2006, a position she held until her retirement in June 2014. Â

McGuire-Closson was instrumental in Northampton’s transition from the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in 2008-09. Under her leadership, following the transition, the Spartans quickly established themselves on the national scene, winning three team and one individual Region XIX championship and having five teams earn national top-ten rankings.

McGuire-Closson was a driving force to help establish the Athletic Advisory Committee, which provides faculty and staff the opportunity for input and discussion with the athletic department to ensure that academics and athletics are working together to achieve common goals.

Winner of the NCC Professional Excellence Award in 1990, Mardi earned Club Advisor of the Year in 2003 and the Chairman’s Award in 2004 for her support of the NCC Foundation.

McGuire-Closson was named Administrator Emerita, Vice President for Student Affairs, upon her retirement.
