An All-Conference selection in 1973, Sam Canone was a tri-captain of the Spartan baseball squad that finished 13-2 and captured the school's first conference championship, under the guidance of then first-year head coach Bill Bearse.
During his freshman season for head coach Pep Rossetti, the switch-hitting Canone batted .353 with 11 RBI's in ten conference games for a team that finished 8-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
After graduating from NCC with a degree in Transportation and Distribution Management, Canone transferred to LaSalle University where he played baseball and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration.
Canone returned to NCC as an assistant baseball coach from 1976 thru 1982, helping lead the Spartans to conference championships in 1976, 1978 and 1979. Those three teams combined for a 57-18 record.
An active member in the community, Canone also played an instrumental role in the development of the NCC alumni association, serving on its executive board and earning "Volunteer of the Year" in 1986.
