Buis helped lead the 1979-80 Spartans to a 29-2 record, an EPCC Title and the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association (PCAA) state championship, as NCC defeated Butler Community College 85-65.

Buis returned for the 1980-81 season and averaged 15.8 points per game, along with seven rebounds, while leading the team to an 18-14 record and a 3rd place finish in the EPCC Tournament.  Buis earned All-Conference honors for his efforts and was named NCC’s Male Athlete of the Year.
