Hall of Fame
A member of the men's basketball team from 1985-87 under Head Coach Jeff Thatcher, Richard Johnson was the first male student-athlete to receive the NCC Alumni Association "Athlete of the Year" award for two conecutive years. A graduate of Easton Area High School, Richard previously held Northampton school records for career points (951), and career field goals (421).
Named to the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference all-conference and all-tournament teams in both 1986 and 1987, Richard says that he remembers fondly the fact that he and many of his teammates were, "players noboby wanted," before they came to play for Coach Thatcher. Â
After Northampton, Richard transferred to Kutztown University and won the championship that eluded him at NCC, when his team captured the PSAC title. A nationally-ranked NCAA Division II program, Kutztown climbed as high as #8 in the rankings during that season.
